AI – Camp tech update:
Your Friday Tech Link Roundup Here are a few things we’ve found online that we hope you’ll enjoy or find useful.
Apple’s annual developer conference (WWDC) kicked off this week with some announcements about Siri AI, iOS 27, Apple Intelligence, and more. Apple stock fell 4% after the keynote, with investors “underwhelmed” by the announcements.
The biggest AI news of the week comes from Anthropic, who released their newest large language model, “Fable 5”. Fable 5 is reportedly a consumer-safe version of Mythos, the model Anthropic said could wreak havoc on cybersecurity systems worldwide just a few months ago. Fable 5 is impressive (we played with it and were pretty amazed at is ability to do a “long horizon” task in one go).
But there’s a catch – it’s only available for 2 weeks. Until June 22, Fable 5 is included on Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans at no extra cost, but as of June 23 it disappears. Using Fable 5 after that will require usage credits. Critics say this is all part of a plan to hype up Anthropic’s abilities ahead of its IPO. With a shortage of some components driving up the cost of consumer electronics, refurbished devices are an attractive alternative to buying new.
