A long list of charges for a 30-year-old Welland man after a three-vehicle collision in Muskoka Lakes Township.
Provincial police say they responded to a collision Monday afternoon on Muskoka Road 118 near Beaumaris Road. One motorist, according to police, was reported to have been driving unsafely and struck another vehicle, causing a secondary collision.
There were no injuries.
Police say the charges include impaired driving by drug, dangerous operation, operation while prohibited, failing to comply with an undertaking, driving while suspended, a Class G1 licence holder unaccompanied by a qualified driver, and a novice driver with the presence of drugs.
The accused is to appear in court next month.

Barrie Police were contacted by staff at a golf course on Monday about a suspected impaired driver.
Soon after the call, the driver was seen passed out at the wheel at the intersection of Big Bay Point Road and Fairview Road. There was yet another call about a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road with obvious signs of damage from a collision that occurred around 10:40 that night.
Police say another motorist tried to get the driver’s attention when the vehicle backed up and turned onto Harvie Road.
Officers located the vehicle leaving a parking lot in the area of Big Bay Point Road and Leggott Avenue and pulled it over. While speaking with the driver, police say officers noted he displayed obvious signs of impairment, including glassy eyes, slurred speech and delayed movements.
The driver was arrested after failing a roadside breath test. More tests were administered at police headquarters, where it was confirmed the driver was nearly three times the legal limit.
The 51-year-old man was charged, his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded.
“Every impaired driving charge represents a decision to put lives at risk, including your own. Make the right choice before getting behind the wheel,” police said in a news release.
3)Orillia OPP appealing to public for aid in fail-to-remain incident

Provincial police are looking to the public for assistance following a collision on June 13 in Orillia after which one driver failed to remain at the scene.
Around 8:15 p.m., Orillia OPP officers responded to a reported collision in the area of Shannon Street and Gill Street.
Police say the suspect vehicle is described as a red, four-door compact car and that they continue to investigate in an effort to identify the involved driver.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have dash cam or surveillance footage from the area at the time of the collision, to contact the Orillia OPP Detachment.
4)Semi-automatic rifle fired in Barrie’s north-end, man arrested

A man was arrested in Barrie on Tuesday after he reportedly fired a semi-automatic rifle outside a restaurant on Bayfield Street.
Barrie police say they had received a call from a man around 6:45 p.m. who said he heard a loud pop in the area of a fast-food restaurant he was dining at with his children. That noise was followed by a young man apologizing, claiming the sound came from a BB gun.
After getting a description of the man, police spotted him nearby and subsequently arrested him inside a Bayfield Street business, also seizing a firearm.
An investigation yielded the seizure of a .22 caliber GSG-16 Carbine rifle, a spent .22 caliber shell casing, a crowbar, box cutters, a flip pocketknife, a small amount of suspected cocaine, scales, and several bills in Canadian currency.
Overall, the 20-year-old man from Barrie is facing seven charges, all related his possession and discharge of the weapon.
No injuries were reported in connection to the incident.
Police say the man was remanded into custody to await a bail hearing scheduled for Friday and the investigation is ongoing.
5)(Updated) Barrie police confirm murder-suicide at north-end home

Barrie Police are confirming a case of intimate partner violence after two people were found dead inside a north-end home.
The bodies were located inside a residence on Peregrine Road, in the area of St. Vincent Street and Osprey Ridge Road
Investigators say officers were called to the home on Saturday for a well-being check. Inside, they found a 46-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman deceased.
Police now say the woman’s death has been ruled a homicide, while the man is believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A firearm was recovered at the scene.
Authorities say there are no outstanding suspects and no charges are expected.
Out of respect for the family, police will not be releasing any names.

Barrie Police said on Monday afternoon that the two people found dead in a north-end home on Saturday are a 45-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman.
Both are from the city.
At this time, police are not seeking any suspects.
They have cleared from the Peregrine Road home, located near St. Vincent Street and Osprey Ridge Road.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Barrie Police are investigating after two people were found dead at a Peregrine Road home in the city’s north end Saturday morning.
In a social media post, police said officers discovered the man and woman during a well-being check at the residence located in the area of St. Vincent Street and Osprey Ridge Road.

6)Barrie police charge two teens following park assault involving group of youths

Two teens are facing charges after a confrontation at a north-end Barrie park.
Police were called to Lampman Lane Park in Letitia Heights around 6 p.m. Monday after reports of a fight involving a group of youths.
According to witnesses, investigators say two males, ages 16 and 12, were at the park when they were approached by a group of males, some of whom they knew from school.
“An argument broke out, which escalated into a physical altercation. The 12-year-old ran home to alert his father, who attended the park and was surrounded by the group of youths who became increasingly aggressive,” police said in a news release.
Two males from the group are alleged to have repeatedly punched the 36-year-old man, prompting the 16-year-old to intervene.
Witnesses say a male wearing a black balaclava reportedly pulled out a drywall saw and chased the 16-year-old, pushing him to the ground.
Minor injuries were reported.
When officers arrived, the youths had fled the area, but witnesses pointed police in the direction of a catwalk near Shakespeare Crescent where the youths were seen heading.
Police detained several suspects, and officers recovered a sheath believed to be from the weapon and a balaclava, but the weapon itself was not found.
A 14-year-old boy has been charged with two counts of assault, while a 15-year-old boy has been charged with two counts of assault and one each of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and disguise with intent.

The alleged shooter in Montreal on Monday has been identified as Seth Scott Hatfield, 25, from Lethbridge, Alta.
His name was released by the Quebec coroner on Tuesday, a day after he allegedly exchanged gunfire with police outside a Hilton hotel in the Côte-des-Neiges district.
The coroner has also identified the two other people killed — Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, 34, a Montreal police officer, and Michel Mizrahi, 68, a bystander caught in the crossfire.
Montreal police Chief Fady Dagher says officers were met with gunfire after responding to a 911 call Monday morning about a person with a gun at the hotel. Witnesses described hearing up to 40 gunshots.
Lethbridge Police said Tuesday morning they were conducting a high-risk search at a home along Lemoyne Crescent.
The police force also said they had evacuated several neighbouring residences and were asking members of the public to avoid the area due to the possible presence of weapons.
Multiple Quebec media have reported that the gunman wrote a manifesto, which they said expressed hatred toward women and calls for more violence.
As well, a police spokesperson in British Columbia has said police forces across that province were warned of the possibility of an anti-police manifesto linked to the Montreal shooting. Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton with the Surrey Police Service said the information was issued Monday afternoon by an intelligence-sharing unit operating out of the RCMP B.C. headquarters.
On Tuesday in the Côte-des-Neiges district, some members of Montreal’s Jewish community gathered around the scene of the shooting to mourn Mizrahi, who was working in a nearby business. Local residents appeared to be visibly shaken and emotional, as police maintained a perimeter around the crime scene.
Stuart Nutik, who lives nearby and is a member of the Jewish community, said he was at home when a neighbour warned him there was an active shooter near the synagogue he attends.
“I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “Thank God my friend told me, so I stayed home.”
Nutik described the shooting as a tragedy and said the neighbourhood was struggling to process what had happened. “For the whole community this is not normal,” he said. “It’s a tragedy. I hope God will give strength to the people involved.”
Another local resident, Lia Gunthridge, said she was pushing her three-year-old son in a stroller near a playground in the park near where the shooting took place, when she heard gunshots.
“We like to go there to relax. It’s such a nice space,” she said. “But we left quickly when we saw the police. It didn’t seem safe.”
She returned Tuesday morning without her son to pay her respects to the victims. “Knowing that such a tragedy took place so close to where I play with my child, it just feels too close,” she said.
Quebec’s police watchdog is investigating the shooting, while Quebec provincial police have launched a parallel criminal probe.
Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada also visited the neighbourhood on Tuesday, saying that Montrealers should feel safe in their city, despite the tragedy.
8)Woman charged with impaired after infant found alone in vehicle in Bracebridge: OPP

A tip from a member of the public led Ontario Provincial Police to a Bracebridge parking lot where officers say they found an impaired driver had left an infant alone inside a vehicle.
Police say around 10 a.m. Saturday, they responded to Depot Drive after concerns were raised about a woman believed to be unfit to drive.
When officers got there, they located the woman after she had left the vehicle. Inside, a baby was found unattended.
A 35-year-old from Utterson has been charged with operation while impaired, over 80, operation while prohibited, and failing to provide the necessaries of life – child.
The woman has a court date in August.
9)Thornton death investigation takes new turn after DNA results

New DNA evidence has changed a key detail in the Thornton death investigation.
Nottawasaga OPP now say human remains found at a residence on June 2 near 10th Line and 10th Sideroad belong to an adult male, revising earlier preliminary findings that suggested the individual was female.
Police say specialized forensic testing was needed because of the condition of the remains. The victim has not yet been identified.
Investigators have said foul play is suspected.
Anyone with information about suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact OPP.
Police add that further information will be released as it becomes available.
10)Barrie Police charge man following stabbing

A man was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following a reported stabbing in Barrie.
Police say officers responded to the area of Mulcaster Street and Codrington Street around 3:30 Sunday morning.
A suspected was identified, but had fled the scene, and was arrested just before 7 a.m. Monday.
A 31-year-old Barrie man has been charged with assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
“The incident appears to be isolated and does not appear to be connected to any other investigation,” police said in an email to Barrie 360.
11)15-year-old charged following hate flyer investigation in Orillia

A 15-year-old Orillia resident is facing charges after a series of hate-related flyer incidents in the city.
Ontario Provincial Police say they first launched an investigation in May after reports that hate speech-motivated flyers were being distributed throughout Orillia. A second, similar incident was reported earlier this month.
Then, just after 3 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a report of a suspicious person in the area of Barrie Road and Walker Avenue. Police say the individual was described as dressed in black clothing, placing flyers on vehicles and trying to enter them.
Police located the suspect and have charged the teen with mischief, public incitement of hatred, fail to comply with a sentence, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
The Orillia OPP Major Crime Unit along with the assistance of the OPP Hate Crime Unit are assisting with the investigation.
The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
12)Motorcyclist killed after collision in Gravenhurst

A motorcyclist has been killed in a collision with a vehicle in Gravenhurst.
Ontario Provincial Police say emergency crews responded around 3:40 Friday afternoon to a collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle on Gravenhurst Parkway near Reay Road.
Despite lifesaving measures, police say the 21-year-old operator of the motorcycle died of his injuries.
The occupants of the vehicle sustained minor injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.

A 63-year-old Barrie man is dead following a collision involving a motorcycle and a car in the city’s south end Friday afternoon.
Barrie Police say the crash happened just after 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of Big Bay Point Road and Hurst Drive.
Police say witnesses immediately rushed to help and provided first aid, but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car remained at the scene and was not seriously injured.
Big Bay Point Road and Hurst Drive remain closed for the investigation.

Police investigation outside a Richmond Hill daycare after an SUV crashed through a building, killing a toddler and injuring children and staff.
A 70-year-old man has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving charges after an SUV he was driving crashed into a daycare north of Toronto last year, killing a toddler and injuring other children and staff members.
Vinay Kumar Gupta pleaded guilty in a Newmarket, Ont. court this morning to one count of dangerous operation causing death and two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
Gupta was arrested at the scene in Richmond Hill, Ont., on Sept. 10, 2025 and later released on bail.
Court heard in an agreed statement of facts that Gupta arrived at the First Roots Early Education Academy parking lot with his wife in a gray SUV just before 3 p.m. that day to pick up his two grandchildren.
The statement says Gupta was attempting to park when his vehicle continued moving up the raised concrete sidewalk and through the exterior window, crashing into the building and striking multiple children and daycare staff before coming to a stop.
The boy who died was just 1 1/2 years old and other children were injured, including one who had life-altering injuries and another who had broken bones and head injuries. Three adult staff members at the daycare were also hurt.
A sentencing hearing for Gupta is scheduled on Dec. 8.
