A motorist is facing impaired driving charges after Orillia OPP say two young children were found in a vehicle pulled over for speeding on Highway 11 northbound in Oro-Medonte.
Police say the vehicle was stopped around 8 p.m. Wednesday.
During the investigation, provincial police say officers determined the two children inside the vehicle were not properly secured in approved child restraint systems.
A 27-year-old Mississauga woman is facing several charges, including two counts of abandoning a child, dangerous operation, impaired operation, and impaired operation with a blood alcohol concentration over 80.
Police said the name of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the children.

Barrie Police say a 66-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges after a pickup truck was seen driving across a homeowner’s lawn on Janine Street, in the area of Cundles Road East.
Police say officers were told the driver was seen getting out of the vehicle with a drink in his hand.
When police responded around 7:45 Tuesday night, they found the driver back in the truck, which was parked on the road. Officers say they detected a strong smell of alcohol and found several open alcohol cans inside the vehicle.
The driver was taken to police headquarters, where breath tests showed he was nearly twice the legal alcohol limit.
The Barrie man was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired 80 plus.
The accused was also charged with having a speed measuring warning device in his vehicle, which is prohibited under the Highway Traffic Act, and can carry a $140 fine and three demerit points if convicted.

Barrie Police tell Barrie 360 they are investigating the theft of a van belonging to COPE Service Dogs, and that a second service van was stolen from their Bradford Street location on Monday, and that vehicle was recovered in Orangeville.
In the early Thursday theft, police said two male suspects took the vehicle.
Police did not say whether they believe the incidents are connected.

An organization in Barrie that trains service dogs is asking for the public’s help after one of its van was stolen overnight.
COPE Service Dogs on a post to social media said its GMC Savanna van was stolen from its Bradford Street location around 1:20 Thursday morning.
The organization adds that it has filed a police report and has video footage of two individuals believed to be involved.
The stolen van has an Ontario licence plate AZ 56871, and it can be identified by images of five golden retrievers wearing service dog vests on both sides of the vehicle, along with the words “Unleashing Potential.” The van also has an air conditioning unit mounted on the roof and the COPE Service Dogs logo on the hood.
If the van is seen, the public is asked to contact police.
On its post, COPE Service Dogs says the van plays an important role in supporting people with disabilities and training future service dogs.
Barrie 360 has reached out to police for information.

South Simcoe Police vehicle after officers charged an Innisfil man operating a modified e-bike on July 8, 2026.
An Innisfil man got a lesson in the rules of the road in the form of seven charges after South Simcoe Police say he was caught operating an illegally modified e-bike.
Police say officers from the Traffic Unit stopped the 26-year-old on the 20th Sideroad, south of Kilarney Beach Road, in Innisfil on Wednesday morning.
They say the modified e-bike was travelling at 54 km/h.
Under Ontario law, e-bikes must not exceed 32 km/h.
The man was charged with driving while under suspension, driving without a licence, driving without a permit, driving without plates, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, failing to surrender an insurance card, and operating a modified power-assisted bicycle.

An active construction site is not a personal playground.
Six youths learned the hard way and are now each facing a charge under the trespass to property act after South Simcoe Police were alerted around 1:50 a.m. Wednesday about suspicious persons at an active construction site on Holland Street West in Bradford West Gwilimbury
Police say the site was fenced and closed to the public.
When officers arrived on scene, they located the youths on the property.
They are scheduled to appear in court in October.
“This incident serves as an important reminder that construction sites are private property and not places to explore or gather. They contain numerous hazards, including heavy equipment, open excavations, unstable surfaces and other dangers,” SSP said on social media. “Entering these sites without permission is not only against the law, but it can also have life-altering consequences.”
Police are reminding everyone to respect construction site fencing, signage and restricted access areas.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to speak with their children about respecting private property and understanding that entering active construction sites is both illegal and unsafe.
6)Wild driving rampage leads to multiple charges for Barrie driver

A Barrie driver was arrested and booked on multiple charges after speeding through a red light and later repeatedly evading police on Tuesday night in Barrie.
At 10:50 p.m., a Barrie Police officer saw a vehicle driving through a red light at the intersection of Anne Street and Essa Road. Then, when a traffic stop was initiated, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and drove off with its lights off as the officer was exiting their cruiser.
Police say another officer saw the same vehicle without its headlights on and noticeable damage to its side in the area of Patterson Road and Ardagh Road. Upon another traffic stop being attempted, the vehicle sped off.
Another officer saw the vehicle minutes later in the area of Essa Road and Veterans Drive, but the driver sped away again after the police cruiser’s flashing lights were activated.
Police say in all three attempted traffic stops, officers noticed the vehicle travelling at excessive speeds and failing to stop for red lights at intersections. The driver was also seen performing dangerous maneuvers in a residential neighbourhood in the area of Patterson Road.
Finally, around 11:30 p.m., the man’s frenzy ended when when his vehicle was stopped near Beacon Road and he was arrested without further incident.
The 21-year-old was charged with three counts of flight from a peace officer, failure to stop after an accident, dangerous operation, driving while suspended, and driving without proper headlights.
7)Early-morning traffic stop in Collingwood yields multiple drug charges for pair

Provincial police have charged a man and a woman with multiple drug-related offences after a traffic stop on Tuesday morning in Collingwood.
Around 3 a.m., Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP patrolling in the area of Beachwood Road stopped a vehicle, which eventually yielded two arrests.
A 45-year-old man and 47-year-old woman from Wasaga Beach were charged with four offences related to possession of a schedule one substance, while the male was additionally charged on two counts of forging documents, two counts of operation while prohibited, and obstructing a peace officer.
Both were held for bail and appeared in court.
“Drug trafficking, impaired driving, and prohibited driving offences pose significant risks to public safety, and the OPP will continue to investigate and hold offenders accountable,” the service said in a news release.
Police did not outline the quantities of what was seized from the traffic stop.
8)Innisfil driver nabbed doing 104 km/h through construction zone: SSP

A motorist has been charged with stunt driving after South Simcoe Police clocked a vehicle travelling 104 km/h in a posted 60 km/h construction zone in Innisfil.
Police say it happened around 7 a.m. Monday on Innisfil Beach Road between Yonge Street and 10th Sideroad.
As a result of the stunt driving charge, the 47-year-old male from Innisfil had his driver’s licence suspended for 30 days, and their vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
Last week in the same area, a 39-year-old woman was charged with stunt driving after police clocked a vehicle travelling 115 km/h through the construction zone.
9)Barrie man charged after reported armed robbery at Penetanguishene store

Provincial police have charged a Barrie man hours after he allegedly committed an armed robbery at a convenience store in Penetanguishene.
Southern Georgian Bay OPP say officers responded to the report of a robbery at a shop on Main Street around 2:30 Tuesday, where a man had allegedly displayed an edged weapon and demanded money from an employee.
Officers arrived at the scene and arrested a 30-year-old man from Barrie, charging him with robbery with a weapon and uttering threats.
He was held for a bail hearing, which is expected Tuesday in Midland.
10)Caught napping at the wheel: Alliston resident charged with impaired by drugs

Ontario Provincial Police say they were called to Young Street and Industrial Parkway in Alliston around 10 a.m. Saturday for reports of a driver asleep at the wheel.
Police say when officers arrived, they detected an odour of cannabis and launched an impaired driving investigation.
A 32-year-old from Alliston has been charged with operation while impaired by drugs and failing to properly wear a seat belt.
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.
11)Bracebridge teen charged with stunt driving after fleeing police

Provincial police have charged a Bracebridge man after he evaded a police traffic stop in Muskoka Lakes on Friday afternoon.
At 5:45 p.m., a Bracebridge OPP officer patrolling the area of Muskoka Road 118 near Pine Glen Road noticed that an eastbound vehicle was displaying concerning driving behaviour. The officer then reportedly attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver sped off.
Police say the officer disengaged and didn’t pursue the vehicle in the interest of public safety.
Soon after, however, the vehicle was found and stopped in Port Carling, eventually yielding the arrest of a 19-year-old man from Bracebridge.
He was charged with dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer, stunt driving, and failing to display two licence plates.
He will appear in a Bracebridge court on August 25.

A closure of Highway 11 for several hours in Oro-Medonte following a collision between a school bus and a passenger vehicle added to the cottage country traffic backlog.
Ontario Provincial Police say they responded to a report of a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 11 between Lines 2 and 3 around 1:40 p.m.
The closure of the highway was necessary to allows crews from the Ministry of Transportation to make repairs to the guardrail and remove debris from the road.
The highway was partially reopened by 5 p.m., with one lane closed in each direction.
OPP say both drivers were charged.
The closure forced many motorists who were Highway 400 bound to travel secondary roads, and it also resulted in heavier than usual traffic through parts of Barrie.
“Orillia OPP would like to remind motorists to leave ample space while driving, should emergency breaking measures be needed and while driving through rural areas, always be aware of your surroundings and the potential of wildlife,” police added in a news release.

Barrie Police investigate a two-vehicle collision at Dean Avenue and Country Lane in south Barrie where an 80-year-old man was seriously injured.
A 67-year-old man suffered serious injuries after a two-vehicle crash in south Barrie.
Police say it happened overnight at Dean Avenue and Country Lane.
The other motorist was a 16-year-old G2 driver with multiple passengers.
Police say both vehicles came to rest on a property, but there was no damage to the house.
They add that charges are pending.
CORRECTION: Earlier, Barrie Police identified the man as an 80-year-old. They have corrected his age to 67.
14) Multiple charges against Barrie man in child exploitation investigation

Barrie Police charged a 39-year-old Barrie man following a five-month child exploitation investigation.
Barrie Police say their Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) launched the probe after receiving a report from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children concerning the upload of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
Following further investigation, the ICE unit executed a search warrant in June at a residence in the central part of the city, seizing several electronic devices belonging to the accused for forensic analysis.
Police say the analysis uncovered images and videos of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, along with evidence that files had allegedly been distributed and purchased.
The suspect, who was arrested on Friday, is charged with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material, and distributing child exploitation material.

OPP nab two suspects on Highway 11 after Orillia robbery

Two men in their early 20s from Mississauga have been charged after a robbery at an Orillia business.
Provincial police say they responded around 11 a.m. Tuesday about a report of a robbery in progress on Front Street North, near Neywash Street.
Police say they were told that two people entered the store armed with hammers, stole property, and the left in the vehicle.
Officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle southbound on Highway 11 in Oro-Medonte.
Two people were taken into custody, and police recovered stolen property.
Police say both suspects were charged with robbery with theft, disguise with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
One of the suspects was also charged with assault with a weapon.
Both were held for a bail hearing on Wednesday.
