1)Deadly crash in Bracebridge, driver charged with impaired

A 25-year-old Bracebridge man is facing charges after a deadly crash involving a motorcycle.

Ontario Provincial Police say that around 10:45 Thursday night, emergency crews responded to a collision on Ecclestone Drive near Kirkhill Drive in Bracebridge.

Police say a motor vehicle and a motorcycle collided. The 23-year-old rider from Bracebridge was taken to the hospital, but despite live-saving measures, he died of his injuries.

The other driver has been charged with impaired driving causing death and dangerous operation causing death.

He has bail hearing on Friday.

2)Multiple injuries in Barrie park incident, two teen boys charged

Barrie police have charged two teenage boys after officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving several individuals at a park in the west end of the city.

This was around 1:20 a.m. on May 16th at Pringle Park, located on Pringle Drive south of Edgehill Drive.

Police say three people were injured, an 18-year-old and two 19-year-olds, all from Barrie. Two of them were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries, and the third did not seek medical attention.

A 14-year-old Barrie boy has been charged with two counts of assault, two counts of administering a noxious substance with intent to endanger life or cause bodily harm, and one count each of uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

A 13-year-old boy, also from Barrie, is charged with two counts each of assault and assault with a weapon, and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police said five other youths were arrested and later released unconditionally.

“The identities of those charged are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act,” police added.

3)Tow truck gets a tow after driver charged with impaired in Alliston

The driver of a tow truck was charged with impaired driving.

Ontario Provincial Police say that around 4 p.m. on May 9, they received a report of a suspected impaired driver operating a tow truck on Victoria Street in Alliston.

Within minutes, police located the vehicle in a nearby parking lot.

Officers began speaking with the driver and entered into an impaired driving investigation.

A 43-year-old from New Tecumseth was charged.

4)(Updated) Barrie police believe east-end shooting was targeted

A shooting in Barrie’s east end on Tuesday evening is believed to have been targeted, according to police.

Emergency crews were called out around 7:45 p.m. following a report of a gunshot in the area of Johnson Street and Shanty Bay Road.

A 22-year-old man was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and then airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

Yellow police tape roped off a parking lot at a condominium complex on Johnson Street soon after the shooting.

A resident of the complex told Barrie 360 she heard what she thought was a firecracker, looked outside, and saw a man crumpled on the grass in the parking lot.

According to police, witnesses reported seeing two males running toward Johnson’s Beach following the shooting. Despite extensive search efforts involving members of the Tactical and K9 units, police said the suspects were not located.

On Wednesday, officers will be in the area canvassing for information and evidence.

“Barrie Police understand that any incident involving a firearm is very concerning. We share those concerns and remain focused on keeping our community safe. While this isn’t believed to be a random act, any form of violence will not be tolerated in our city,” police said in a news release.

5)Stunt driving charge laid after Barrie man caught more than double the speed limit

Barrie Police charged a 23-year-old man with stunt driving and speeding after they say he was caught passing vehicles at more than double the speed limit on Essa Road.

Police say the Barrie driver was clocked at 104 km/h in a posted 50 zone south of Ardagh Road.

The man’s licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

6)13-year-old charged after police pursuit ends in Gravenhurst crash

A 13-year-old Brampton boy is facing multiple charges after a police pursuit ended in Gravenhurst early Monday.

Bracebridge OPP say they were alerted by Peel Regional Police around 3:30 a.m. about a youth who had allegedly taken the vehicle of his parents in Brampton and was believed to be heading toward Gravenhurst to meet some friends.

Officers located the vehicle near Lofty Pines Drive and attempted a traffic stop, but police say the driver attempted to flee the area.

The vehicle left the road on Doe Lake Road. The youth, who was not injured, was taken into custody.

The boy has been charged with dangerous driving, taking a motor vehicle without consent, flight from police, and stunt driving.

He was held in custody and is to appear for a bail hearing on Monday.

7)Police say Barrie driver nearly twice legal limit after Sunday morning impaired arrest

A concerned citizen call led Barrie Police to an alleged impaired driver Sunday morning.

Police say the citizen followed a vehicle from Johnston Street to Tunbridge Road after spotting a man who appeared intoxicated behind the wheel. The motorist pulled into a driveway in the city’s north end.

An officer located the driver outside the home and made an arrest following an investigation.

Authorities say breath tests conducted at police headquarters confirmed the man was allegedly nearly twice the legal limit.

The 63-year-old from Barrie was charged with impaired driving.

8)Barrie man charged with stunt driving

A 77-year-old Barrie man is without his pickup truck.

Barrie Police say they pulled over a vehicle on Essa Road near Salem Road in the city’s south end that was clocked travelling 111 km/h.

As a result, the truck was impounded for 14 days, and the man’s driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days.

“Stunt driving doesn’t just put your licence at risk – it puts lives at risk. Slow down and drive responsibly,” Barrie Police posted on X.

9)Barrie man clocked nearly 3x over posted speed limit

Motorcycle allegedly travelling 169 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on Mapleview Drive East in Barrie’s south end early Sunday morning, as investigated by police.

Barrie Police charged a 30-year-old man they say was caught travelling nearly three times the posted speed limit in the city’s south end early Sunday.

Police say the driver, who is from Barrie, was clocked at 169 km/h on Mapleview Drive East near Huronia Road in a posted 60-zone.

Police also say the driver was charged with unnecessary noise.

As a result, the man is now facing a 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impound under Ontario’s stunt driving laws.
