Victoria Day long weekend is almost here, which means fireworks, family fun, and the unofficial kickoff to summer. Whether you’re planning a backyard barbecue, a trip to the lake, or looking for a fun event, here’s everything you need to know about Victoria Day week to make the most of your holiday.

NOTE: This is the first statutory holiday that falls under new provincial legislation that allows all retailers to open on the holiday if they so choose. Employees are not required to work. Click on the links provided below to determine if grocery stores, malls, and other retailers will be open.

Public Service Schedules

Here’s what you need to know about changes to garbage collection, public transit, and other municipal services this Victoria Day.

Garbage Collection

  • Simcoe County – regular collection day
  • Barrie – regular collection day
  • Orillia – No garbage, green bin, or yard waste collection. Collection delayed by one day. Circular Materials residential recycling collection will also be delayed by one day.

Public Transit

  • Barrie – no service
  • Bradford – no service
  • Clearview – no service
  • Collingwood – no Colltrans service; Blue Mountain Link will operate as usual
  • Midland/Penetanguishene – no service
  • Orillia – no service
  • Simcoe County Linx – no service, except Route 4 which will be operating a Sunday schedule
  • GO Transit – GO trains will not operate between Downsview Park GO and Union Station from Saturday, May 16 to Monday, May 18 as crews continue construction to support the future addition of a second track. There will be regularly scheduled train service between Allandale Waterfront GO and Downsview Park GO.
