If you’re the kind of person who can’t walk past a good book, clear your calendar for the last weekend of May. The Barrie Public Library’s BIG Spring Book Sale returns May 23 and 24 at the Downtown Branch on Worsley Street, and it’s one of those community events that just keeps getting better.

Now in its fourth year, last year’s sale brought hundreds of readers through the doors and raised over $6,500 for library programs and services. This year is shaping up to be even biggerBottom of Form

What you’ll find

This isn’t just a pile of old paperbacks on a folding table. You’ll find a wide selection of gently used books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, video games, and more. It’s the perfect way to stock up on beach reads, plan a movie night, or find your next creative obsession.

Bring your own bag, or grab a reusable BPL tote for $2 at the door.

When to show up

  • Saturday, May 23: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 24: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

If you want the best selection, Saturday morning is your best bet.

Why it matters

Every dollar raised goes directly back into the library. That means new equipment, expanded programs, and more opportunities for the community to try something new without a big cost.

“Our community plays such an important role in shaping what we can offer at the library,” said Katelyn Lees, Community and Resource Development Specialist. “Thanks to the success of our book sales, we’re able to bring in new equipment like our embroidery machine and continue creating spaces where people can try something new without a big cost.”

Proceeds also support the library’s plans for future branches and help grow the Library of Things collection and Creative Spaces programming.

Want to donate?

Donations are accepted Wednesday, May 20 and Thursday, May 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Items should be clean, in good condition, and published within the last three years. The library is especially looking for:

  • New fiction
  • Gardening, DIY, and nature books
  • Seasonal spring and summer crafting
  • Cooking and grilling
  • Fitness

Please note, textbooks, encyclopedias, and oversized coffee table books won’t be accepted.
