The power outage was extensive.

Alectra says equipment failure was to blame for an outage around the noon hour on Monday that cut hydro to about 10,000 homes and businesses in Barrie.

The area affected was east of Highway 400 and north of Dunlop Street West, according to the utility.

This impacted sections of the downtown, north Barrie, and a large area of the city’s east end.

The number was quickly cut to just under 1,000 customers, and just before 1:30 p.m., all power had been restored.
