Orillia changing downtown parking and adding restrictions for winter months

Motorists will be forced to make different arrangements in Orillia starting Saturday when seasonal overnight parking restrictions will take effect.

Vehicles parked during prohibited hours may be ticketed, towed, and subject to applicable fines, according to the City. The restrictions will be enforced beginning Saturday and continue until April 15.

Generally, parking will be prohibited in most city streets and municipal parking lots from 12 a.m. to 7 a.m. However, there are some specific exceptions for certain areas.

DOWNTOWN PARKING CHANGES

With the goal of improving accessibility, overnight parking on downtown streets and nearby designated municipal lots will be restricted from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Those affected will be municipal parking lots one, two, four, five, seven, and 10.

It also applies to on-street parking from Andrew Street to Front Street, and Colborne Street to Coldwater Street.

BOULEVARD PARKING

Residents who require off-street parking overnight may park within the boulevard year-round if the vehicle is at least 1.5 metres from both the sidewalk and roadway.

OVERNIGHT PARKING IN WEST RIDGE

In West Ridge, there are select municipal lots in which parking is available, but a permit is required and are available in limited quantities.

The lots with available spaces include those at Walter Henry Park (seven spaces), West Ridge Park (four), and Clayt French Park (13)

To obtain a permit, residents must follow the application process and pay the non-refundable cost of $375, plus HST. The permits are valid from Saturday to April 15, and are issued on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability.
