South Simcoe Police said they have arrested a second suspect in connection with a robbery and assault of a person at the Bradford Walmart on Jan. 4.
The 30-year-old of no fixed address has been charged with robbery with a weapon, theft under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime.
The accused has been released on an undertaking with conditions.
South Simcoe Police (SSP) has arrested one of two men they say are suspects in the robbery and assault of a person that occurred at a department store in Bradford on January 4.
They say Barrie Police arrested a 31-year-old male suspect on an unrelated matter on Tuesday, assisting SSP in executing an arrest warrant.
Barrie Police say they were alerted to the man, who had been seen near Mulcaster Street, but he had left the area before officers arrived. Police then went to his last known address in Barrie, where a vehicle was found in the driveway with the interior light on and what appeared to be two people inside.
The vehicle unexpectedly backed out of the driveway and began to flee the area while officers awaited additional units. Police say attempts to initiate a traffic stop using lights and sirens were unsuccessful.
During the pursuit, the driver rammed into two police cruisers, and was subsequently arrested without further incident. The police cruisers reportedly sustained minimal damage and there were no injuries.
Officers detected the odour of alcohol on the driver and noticed delayed responses during the arrest. Further investigation found suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, and several bags containing unknown pills.
The man was later confirmed to be impaired once brought to the police station and a breath test was administered. The passenger in the suspect vehicle was initially detained but later released unconditionally according to police.
Barrie Police have booked the man on nine charges including two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, operation while impaired and while prohibited, dangerous operation, possession of opioids and methamphetamine and opioid possession for the purpose of trafficking.
He is facing a total of eight separate charges from his SSP warrant including robbery and assault with a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of property obtained by crime, theft under $5,000 administering noxious thing with intent to endanger life or cause bodily harm, and assault causing bodily harm.
Meanwhile, police say a 30-year-old male suspect remains at large and is wanted on charges of robbery with a weapon, theft under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime.
“The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. Members of the public are advised not to approach him and to contact police immediately,” South Simcoe Police said in a news release, appealing to the public for information on his whereabouts.
Investigators said the outstanding suspect is known to frequent the Barrie and Angus areas, and has no fixed address.
