Toronto police say they have responded to reports someone discharged a firearm at the U.S. consulate in the city’s downtown.

There are no reports of any injuries.

In a post on social media, police say they are on the scene near University Avenue and Queen Street West and investigating.

They say evidence of a firearm discharge has been located.

There is no information on a possible suspect.

The southbound side of University Avenue near the consulate is closed.

On March 5 at around 12:45 p.m., officers on patrol on Sideroad 5 in Innisfil were alerted to a vehicle associated with a driver required to operate with an ignition interlock device. Police conducted a traffic stop and determined that the vehicle was not equipped with the required device for the driver.

As a result, a 24-year-old man from Orangeville was arrested and charged with operating a conveyance while prohibited, a criminal code offence, and one count of having an improper braking system under the Highway Traffic Act.,

The licence plates on the vehicle were seized, the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

The accused is to appear in court at a later date.

About 30 minutes after that incident, officers responded to a collision near Innisfil Beach Road and Highway 400, where they found a vehicle in the ditch. There were no injuries reported.

As officers investigated, a tow truck operator approached police soon after and told them his arm and food had been struck by a passing vehicle as it was slowing down for a red light near the collision scene. Police conducted a traffic stop, where they detected a strong odour of alcohol from the driver and observed signs of impairment. Police said officers located open alcoholic beverages in the centre console of the vehicle.

A 68-year-old Coldwater man was charged with two impaired driving offences, dangerous operation, failing to slow down and proceed with caution for an emergency vehicle or tow truck, driving a vehicle with an open container of liquor, driving a vehicle with an open container of liquor readily available, and driving a vehicle without a valid permit.

The accused has a court date next month.

3)Traffic stop in downtown Barrie leads to drug, fraud, and break‑in charges

A routine traffic stop in downtown Barrie early this month led to the arrest of two individuals and the discovery of suspected drugs, identity documents, and tools commonly used in break‑ins.

Barrie police say the incident happened on the afternoon of March 3, when an officer conducting traffic enforcement pulled over a vehicle near McDonald and Mulcaster Streets.

According to police, the officer requested identification from the driver and learned he was wanted on an outstanding warrant from another police service. Officers say he was arrested “without incident.”

Both the driver and passenger were also bound by probation orders with strict conditions.

During the investigation, officers found a range of prohibited and suspicious items inside the vehicle.

Seized were:

  • Multiple credit and debit payment terminals
  • Numerous cards and identification documents not belonging to either occupant
  • Prepaid financial cards
  • Suspected break‑in instruments
  • A quantity of suspected methamphetamine
  • Several $100 Canadian bills

Police say both occupants — a 43‑year‑old man from Brampton and a 40‑year‑old woman from Scarborough — were arrested and charged with multiple Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act offences.

The charges include:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance (methamphetamine)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of identity documents
  • Possession of break‑in instruments
  • Fail to comply with probation and release orders

4) Person seriously injured, three youths sought after an assault in Alcona

South Simcoe Police (SSP) say an adult was seriously injured during an assault that took place at an apartment building in a retail plaza on Innisfil Beach Road in Alcona.

Police say officers responded around 7:20 Monday night to a report of a disturbance.

It’s alleged three youths assaulted the victim after tampering with cameras inside a nearby apartment building.

“During the incident, one suspect brandished a gold expandable baton and attempted to strike the victim as the other two suspects assaulted the victim while on the ground. The victim was struck multiple times in the face and head, resulting in injuries that were serious but non-life-threatening,” SSP said in a news release.

The suspects fled the scene on foot westbound on Westminster Street.

The suspects are described as:

Suspect 1: White male youth with brown hair. He was wearing a black shirt with white writing on the back, black pants, and a red undershirt. He was armed with a gold expandable baton.

Suspect 2: White male youth with a thin build and brown hair, wearing a white shirt with black writing, black pants, and white shoes.

Suspect 3: Black or Hispanic male youth with a heavy build and curly brown hair, wearing a black hoodie and black pants.

5)Man charged after downtown Barrie stabbing leaves victim in serious condition

A 20-year-old Barrie man is facing charges after a downtown stabbing early Saturday morning.

Barrie police say officers were patrolling on Dunlop Street East when they were alerted shortly before 2 a.m. to reports by witnesses that a man had been stabbed. The 23-year-old victim was found in serious condition and transported to hospital.

Witnesses said the stabbing followed a verbal argument outside an establishment that escalated into a physical confrontation.

A suspect was located about an hour later in the area of Jeffrey Street and Grove Street East, where he was taken into custoday.

The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 79-year-old man with attempted murder in connection with a suspicious house fire in Tiny Township.

The suspect, who is from Tiny Township, was also charged with two arson-related offences and one count each of mischief and spousal assault.

The accused was remanded in custody.

Police said the name of the suspect is being withheld out of concern for the victim in this incident.

One person is in custody following a ‘suspicious’ house fire in Tiny Township.

Around 6 p.m. on Sunday, emergency services responded to a reported structure fire on Macedonia Circle, located east of Penetanguishene.

Tiny Township firefighters attended and extinguished a fully engulfed house fire and a separate garage on the property.

One resident was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

A dog inside the residence died, and a neighbouring home was damaged by fire.

A short time later, officers stopped a vehicle on Golf Link Road in Tiny Township. A person was arrested in connection with the fire and remains in custody. Police said further information regarding charges will be released when it becomes available.

7) Three stunt driving charges in three days laid by Nottawasaga OPP

Three drivers were charged with stunt driving in three days by Nottawasaga OPP officers conducting speed enforcement.

On Saturday, March 7, shortly after 11:30 p.m., police say an officer conducting speed enforcement on Highway 89 east of Alliston stopped a vehicle travelling 143 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

The driver was charged with stunt driving, speeding, failing to surrender their licence, and failing to surrender an insurance card.

On Monday at around 8 a.m., an officer stopped two vehicles within an hour for stunt driving on Mill Street in Angus. The first driver was clocked at 116 km/h in a posted 50 zone, and the other motorist was stopped about an hour later travelling 112 km/h. Both drivers were charged with stunt driving.

All drivers received a 30 day licence suspension, had their vehicles impounded for 14 days and have future court dates.

Three people face drug and other charges following a police traffic stop in Orillia.

Around 12:30 a.m. on March 3, police say an officer was patrolling in the area of West Street South and Barrie Road when they spotted an offence by a vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act.

The officer pulled the vehicle over. All passengers in the vehicle were identified and found to be in violation of criminal conditions. During the arrest, police say a quantity of suspected hydromorphone pills were located.

A 32-year-old from Orillia was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

A 43-year-old from Orillia was charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, failure to comply with a release order, and a pair of drug-related offences.

A 39-year-old from Orillia was charged with drug trafficking and failure to comply with a release order.

9)Stolen U-Haul leads to arrest in Bond Head, seized drugs, stolen items

South Simcoe Police nabbed a suspect after a stolen U-Haul crashed.

Around 5 p.m. on Friday, police spotted a U-Haul pickup truck in a retail plaza parking lot in the area of Holland Street in Bradford West Gwillimbury. The truck had been reported stolen a day earlier in Burlington. Using information provided by Halton Regional Police, officers set up a surveillance to safely track the suspect.

The suspect returned to the truck soon after and drove westbound on County Road 88, but was involved in a collision near the 5th Sideroad. Police say he ditched the vehicle and ran into a backyard in Bond Head, where he was arrested.

Police credit members of the public for their assistance by providing real-time updates to 9-1-1 about the vehicle and the suspect’s movements.

Investigators say further investigation resulted in the discovery of a large quantity of stolen clothing, suspected drugs, and tools believed to have been used to steal the pickup.

A 34-year-old man from Guelph has been charged with:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (motor vehicle)
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime (retail merchandise)
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance (methamphetmine)
  • Operation while prohibited
  • Operation while impaired
  • Fail to stop after an accident
  • Driving while under criminal code suspension – Highway Traffic Act
  • Possession of cannabis over the legal limit – Cannabis Act
  • Possession of illicit cannabis – Cannabis Act
  • Driving while under suspension – Highway Traffic Act

Police say the suspect was also wanted on outstanding warrants with both the Guelph Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police for similar offences.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

“Through coordinated police work and public assistance, officers quickly brought the incident to a successful and safe conclusion, with no injuries to members of the public or police. The South Simcoe Police Service thanks the public for their assistance and recognizes the coordinated efforts of patrol officers, investigative services, and communications operations,” police said in a news release.

10) Pedestrian seriously injured, driver charged after collision in Barrie

A female pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after Barrie police said she was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Sunnidale Road and Wellington Street West.

Officers were alerted to the collision around 9 p.m. on Wednesday and arrived within five minutes, where they found lying in the intersection. The driver remained at the scene.

As officers spoke with the driver, police said he was unable to provide valid documentation, and saw him moving items around in the centre console and the front passenger seat area.

“Officers also noted the male driver showed obvious signs of impairment, including constricted pupils, slow, deliberate movements, and slurred speech,” police said in a media release.

Officers arrested the driver and took him to police headquarters.

A 56-year-old from Barrie was charged with drug possession (methamphetamine), operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm, operating a vehicle without insurance, failure to surrender a licence, and failure to surrender a permit for a vehicle.

The driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

11) Barrie police find machete after teen disturbance at Georgian Mall

Barrie police are investigating after a report of an altercation at the Georgian Mall around 6:40 p.m. Monday involving several teenagers, including one chasing others with a weapon.

Police searched the mall but were unable to find any suspects or victims.

There were several people in the mall at the time of the incident, and police said they obtained cell phone video that shows one male armed with a machete chasing others.

During a search outside the building, officers located a large machete in the snow that is believed to be the weapon seen in the video.

13) OPP arrest teen after deliberate fire at Gravenhurst gas station

Bracebridge OPP has laid charges against an 18‑year‑old following a “dangerous situation” reported on March 2 at a Gravenhurst gas station.

Police say the incident happened around 6:40 p.m. at the station on Muskoka Road South where three individuals pushed a vehicle up to a gas pump. As one person began dispensing fuel into the vehicle, another ignited the gasoline, sparking what police called a “considerable fire.”

The on‑site attendant acted quickly, shutting off the pump and grabbing a fire extinguisher, preventing further damage or injuries.

The accused, of Huntsville, has been charged with mischief endangering life and a common nuisance endangering life.

He will appear in court in Bracebridge on May 5.

Police say the incident had the potential to cause significant harm as well as property damage.

They also credit the quick action of the gas station attendant, who immediately shut off the pump and used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.
