The City of Barrie is working with Oraclepoll Research to conduct a statistically valid phone survey of residents to gather feedback on key questions related to the 2026 Business Plan & Budget.
Starting the week of September 22, a random selection of residents from all 10 wards in the city will be contacted to take part in a statistically valid phone survey to gather feedback on key questions related to the 2026 Business Plan & Budget. Cellular and landline numbers will be called, and the survey will take an estimated five to seven minutes to complete.
All individual responses will be kept confidential, and respondents won’t be asked to give any personal information, or any payment or banking information.
Residents who receive a call to do the survey are encouraged to take the time to provide feedback. Input will be shared with Council as part of the 2026 Business Plan & Budget deliberations happening this fall.
Subject to Council’s discussions, the City Services portion of the 2026 Business Plan & Budget is scheduled to be approved on November 12. Service Partner budgets are scheduled to be approved on December 10.

2)Barrie’s new transit terminal opens Sunday
The wheels on the bus will go ’round and ’round to the new Barrie Allandale Transit Terminal, beginning Sunday, September 21.
The terminal is located at 20 Essa Road, beside the Allandale Waterfront GO station.
Downtown transit service will continue through bus stops and sheltered waiting areas located adjacent to 24 Maple Avenue. Transit service levels downtown will be maintained and will continue to provide direct access routes to and from the downtown area.
The downtown terminal at 24 Maple Avenue will close on September 28.
The building will then be renovated and transformed into a campus for Lakehead University’s science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) hub, which is scheduled to open in fall 2026.
The new transit terminal is centrally located as part of an inter-regional transit hub that also includes Simcoe County’s LINX transit service, GO trains and buses, as well Ontario Northland.
The city has said the transit hub will host seamless transit services and connections between Simcoe County, northern Ontario, and the Greater Toronto Area.
As part of the change, Route 8 will adjust to service the new terminal more directly and to provide new routing onto Lakeshore Drive, Springdale Drive, and Cundles Road East.
The Barrie Allandale Transit Terminal and Downtown Mini Hub project was supported and funded by the Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario, and the City of Barrie through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
