A Barrie police officer is facing assault-related charges following an internal investigation into a disturbance call earlier this month.

Police say the incident happened on June 8 and was brought to the attention of the police chief, who launched a Chief’s complaint.

The service’s Professional Standards Unit investigated, and a 38-year-old officer has been charged with assault and assault causing bodily harm.

The officer has been in policing for 11 years and joined the Barrie Police Service in 2024.

The individual has since been reassigned to non-public-facing duties, police stated.

“The Barrie Police Service holds its members to a high standard with clear expectations of professionalism, restraint, and respect in all interactions. Allegations of misconduct are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly to ensure accountability is maintained and public trust is upheld,” police said in a news release on Monday.
