The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing a collision between a school bus and a dump truck in Oro-Medonte Township on Thursday morning that resulted in three children and one the drivers being transported to the hospital.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), at approximately 7:30 a.m., an unmarked OPP vehicle with its emergency lights activated was merging onto Highway 11 northbound from Forestview Road, just south of Orillia, when a collision occurred involving a dump truck and a school bus.

“The driver of the dump truck and three youths from the school bus were transported to a local hospital,” police said in a news release.

Oro-Medonte Fire Chief Roree Payment has said the truck driver was extricated from the overturned vehicle.

The Highway 11 northbound off-ramp at Forestview Road was closed for the investigation and has since reopened.

As the SIU has invoked its mandate, police said they will not be able to provide further information.
