June 7, 1576 – Martin Frobisher sails on the Gabriel with sister ship Michael on his first expedition to search for the North West Passage. He was licensed by the Muscovy Company and backed by Queen Elizabeth I and London merchants. Martin Frobisher will sight Greenland, discover Baffin Island and name Frobisher Bay after himself.
