No room for illegal shrooms. Barrie cops move in on Dunlop establishment

A Dunlop Street storefront got a visit from the Barrie Police Drug Unit on Friday. A search warrant was executed, according to police, at a location which they allege had been selling illegal magic mushrooms.
Police say the warrant resulted in the seizure of a number of illegal products, as well as the removal of signage, and several drug-related charges were laid.
“Additionally, Barrie police attended another illegal psilocybin location on Dunlop Street yesterday, Thursday, July 3rd, while the locks were changed, and signage removed, to ensure the eviction proceeded smoothly, and the illegal business was effectively closed,” police stated in a news release.
Police say they continue to work with the City of Barrie, as well as provincial and federal authorities to remove these illegal psilocybin storefronts from the community.
“We recognize that the community is concerned with the implications of these storefronts, and the Barrie Police Service is committed to ensuring that our downtown core remains a safe and welcoming place for all members of our community,” said Chief Rich Johnston. “With the support of the Barrie Police Service Board, and the city, we have made it a priority to close down these shops, and work towards eradicating them from our community.”
“When shops appear, police immediately begin the steps required to seize products, make arrests and charges, and prevent these illegal, unregulated, and uninspected products from being sold,” the police news release said.
Police added that property owners who allow shops selling illegal substances such as psilocybin can also face financial and criminal repercussions.
