New Mandatory Email Changes February 1st: From Google, Yahoo, Microsoft….

Hi everyone. Below is a link to a webinar I’ve recorded (in fact 3 times as info has come to light over the past week) on the changes coming up for email. If you’d like to have copies of the information documents on guidelines and explanations I’ve come across. – just send me a quick note (patricia@growvantage.com)

Here are the Coles notes (webinar link at the end of the email):

Why should you care?  With the growth of spam emails – our emails need to be authenticated to reduce spam. The email platforms want to remove spamming and spoofing (someone posing as you – using your email address) so it protects you. And prevent your ability to have your emails received. If you use a personal email to send business emails – they are telling us that they will be blocked after February 1st.

1. Stop using personal email addresses for business as of Feb 1st. to avoid your emails being blocked (ie @gmail.com, or version of Yahoo email, e.g. @yahoo.com/ca) – they need to be attached to a domain (there may be another authentication alternative for gmail – one of the attachments I can send). I am not sure what Bell or Rogers are doing. Microsoft is sending out its own guidelines.

2. Immediate addition of authentication mechanisms (SPF, DKIM and DMARC) for emailers sending out large amounts of emails per day. BUT with authentication mechanisms being proposed for some, email service providers recommend everyone should also put these 3 other authentication records in place now vs. wait

Why? While Google has defined it as a rate of 5,000 emails per day for bulk email senders Yahoo has not committed. They also did a terrible job of letting us know about this but… email service providers are recommending we do this now to insulate ourselves against anti-spamming changes that will affect our ability to email (if we don’t institute changes).

I am going to make some time available if you need to chat about this – likely Monday evening.

Requested action: If you have any questions or wish to discuss, or you’d like a copy of some of the documents I’ve found… could you send an email to patricia@growvantage.com to let me know if you’d like to get on a group zoom call together to discuss?
