An “unexpected guest” was found in the driveway of a Barrie home Tuesday evening, officials with the Barrie Police Service said.

According to police, a man was sleeping near the garage when the Park Street homeowner arrived home at 6:30.

“The homeowner immediately contacted the Barrie Police Service and upon arrival, the male was located lying in some bushes next to the driveway,” said Peter Leon, communication coordinator with the Barrie police.

“After confirming the identity of the male, it was determined that he was wanted on a warrant held by the Barrie Police Service for Failing to Comply with Probation.”

The 35-year-old from Barrie was arrested and taken to police headquarters, and Leon added they seized suspected Fentanyl and Hydromorphone.

He was released on an undertaking after being charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Probation
  • Two counts of Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Opioid (other than heroin)

He is scheduled to appear in Barrie court in December.

“The Barrie Police Service is reminding the public that at any time an unknown person is located on your property to do as this homeowner did and to call the police,” Leon stated.

“Police stress, that under no circumstances, should you ever approach an unknown individual as your personal safety could be compromised should that person be in possession of a weapon, medically unstable or under the influence of drugs.”
