Barrie police have charged a 61-year-old man with numerous offences after they received information about an individual who made “inappropriate requests” to a teenager at the downtown public library on Worsley Street.

Police allege the suspect communicated with the male by sharing a handwritten letter.

“The victim immediately reported this incident, and police were assisted by library staff in identifying the now accused,” police said in a news release.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and was remanded into custody.

Investigators believe this may be an isolated incident, but are asking anyone who may have had a similar encounter to contact Det.-Const. Mark Casey at 705-725-7025, ext. 2513, or by email at mcasey@barriepolice.ca.

Police added that due to a court-imposed publication ban, no further details regarding this investigation can be released.
